Cloth has been used by women and girls as a traditional menstrual solution for centuries. Our reusable menstrual cloth pads are cost-effective, waste-reducing, and offer complete protection for a minimum of 12 months.
A woman has almost 400 periods in her lifetime, which means she will spend over eighty thousand taka on period-related products. For millions of women in Bangladesh, the cost of menstrual products is simply unaffordable. Thus, one of the main reasons for using reusable pads is because of the cost benefits they create – reusable pads can be washed, dried, and used again for a minimum of 12 months, making them a highly cost-effective solution. To put it into perspective: Shaathi provides reusable pads – for those women who simply can’t afford disposable sanitary pads – that are three times more affordable than a year’s supply of disposable pads.
In Bangladesh, around 75% of women still use scrap cloth from old clothing, including even reusing a disposable pad to absorb their monthly menstrual flow. Shaathi’s reusable pad imitates the common re-using cloth method whilst providing women and girls with a more hygienic and dignified menstrual solution.
On average, a menstruating woman or girl will use around 200 disposable pads a year. These commercial pads contain plastic and harsh chemicals, and are serious environmental pollutants. The negative externalities that come with such pads can simply be reduced if we start using reusable pads, as they contain no such harmful materials or negative environmental impact.
Reusable pads can be used for more than a year – contributing to peace of mind and security.
