“Safe2Bleed” Menstrual Health Camp, 2021

We are thankful to our partners Labaid and Eastcoast Group who helped us launch “Safe2Bleed” Menstrual Health Camp, 2021for the underprivileged women and girls living in the slums of Korail and Rayerbazaar slums in Dhaka on March 3rd and 5th. It helped raise awareness about menstrual health issues and in promoting safe menstrual practices through use of reusable sanitary pads.

The health camp started with an orientation session on the importance of menstrual health and hygiene with the ladies in waiting. The participants were divided into small groups keeping safety measures in place and at the end of each session the volunteers then directed the ladies with the given tokens for a height, weight and blood pressure check up with a nurse. The gynecologists who were waiting in another room examined and discussed about the various reproductive health issues that these women and girls suffer from because of poor obstetric health services in their community.

The satisfaction on the faces of the women who had been able to see a doctor was rather uplifting. They valued the opportunity and the occasion.

At the end the women and girls received Shaathi reusable pads and many were thrilled that “something so beautiful” was made just for them — helping them feel valued and appreciated.
